Barbie Dream House Fail

After spending hours assembling a Barbie Dream House for Eliza, Nathan and I realized the elevator in the house wasn't functional. Eliza primarily wanted the Dream House specifically because of the elevator, so it not working was a pretty big problem. Unfortunately, the Barbie Dream House was one of the most popular Christmas items this year and impossible to find at any Walmart or online. For the last week, I have been checking to see if any of the Walmarts in our area have a Dream House in stock. Today, I finally found one in Payson. AND...the best part about this whole ordeal is that the house was sixty dollars cheaper than what we originally paid. Success!

As Nathan wheeled the Dream House into Walmart, it felt like all eyes were on us. Nathan said the Barbie Dream House was like some sort of "mythological creature" because people are instantly overwhelmed and impressed by its grandeur.
While Nathan exchanged the Dream House for a new one, the kids and I walked around the store. Naturally, we wondered over to the toy department. Lo and behold, we found a Frozen Castle. The exciting part about this discovery was that it was on sale for half of its advertised price. Naturally, we bought it and justified the expense by telling ourselves it was okay because the Barbie Dream House we returned saved us sixty dollars. Eliza was so excited she could barely contain her excitement.

On the way home, we drove by the new Payson temple that is being built. The kids were amazed at how big and beautiful it is.
We then came home, put the kids to bed, and Nathan got to work building another Barbie Dream House.
When we opened the box, I noticed a bright yellow slip of paper. When I pulled it out and read it, I couldn't stop laughing.
Apparently, Nathan and I weren't the only ones who assumed the elevator was broken when it wouldn't snap into place. The house we returned probably had a fully functional elevator, but we didn't know one had to practically slam the elevator together in order to make it work. We're trying to focus on the positives and think about the money we saved when we got the new house and not cry over the fact that there are 138 stickers that have to be placed on various features and accessories again.

Even Matel has a sense of humor about their ridiculous toy!
